The last couple of weeks saw a lot of new movie trailers that have gotten the attention of the preview-loving movie buffs of the Web. Let’s take a look at some of the exciting new movies that will soon be released later this year.
Iron Sky
Space Nazis.
Seriously, those two words pretty much sum up and highlight the new sci-fi comedy from director Timo Vuorensola, who also directed and starred in Star Wreck: In The Pirkinning. The plot of the movie is this: Defeated in 1945, Nazis use their anti-gravity research breakthrough to launch themselves to the moon and make their new headquarters in its dark side. In 2018, their descendants are finally ready to launch an attack back to Earth and conquer it.
Iron Sky spearheads the new wave of films produced through Wreckamovie.com’s participatory cinema, where enthusiasts can collaborate online with their ideas. From the looks of the trailer, this certainly looks promising and should be on everyone’s short list of must-see movies for 2012.
Release date: April 4
Recommended if you like: space Nazis, off-beat/dark comedies, sci-fi, space battles, I repeat – Nazis attacking from the moon
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Based on the mashup novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also made the adapted screenplay, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is about exactly what the title says – one of our most respected leaders was secretly a vampire killer. Of course, this is only a fictional portrayal. Probably.
Like Iron Sky above, this is one of the most interesting movie concepts to be coming out later this year so it’s really worth checking out.
Release date: June 22
Recommended if you like: vampire hunting, alternate histories, early American history
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
With an asteroid set dead straight to collide with and destroy Earth, Steve Carell plays a man who, left alone by his wife who panicked, goes on a road trip to find his high school sweetheart. His neighbor, played by Keira Knightley, doesn’t have anything better to do or anyone to be with so she decides to tag along for a last adventure.
What would you do when the end of the world is already certain?
Release date: June 22
Recommended if you like: doomsday scenarios, light comedies, road trips, giant asteroids
The Bourne Legacy
The Bourne Legacy, the fourth in the very popular action series, will not be starring Matt Damon as the lethal Jason Bourne since he stipulated he won’t be returning without director Paul Greengrass, who announced in 2009 he’s not interested in directing the fourth installment anymore.
Instead, there’s a new cast and crew in town for a full spin-off from the franchise’s main story, with Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross/Kenneth Gidson, an operative as good as Bourne but under a different and much deadlier operation.
Renner is slated to become the next action superstar, with such roles as in The Hurt Locker, last year’s MI: Ghost Protocol and also the upcoming Avengers superhero movie. Let’s see how he measures up to Damon as the new hero of the Bourne sidequel.
Release date: August 3
Recommended if you like: the Bourne series, Jeremy Renner, action movies, spy thrillers, conspiracy theories
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2
Lucky fans in Target stores were able to watch the sneak behind the scenes peak on the second part of the Twilight Saga’s final installment. The exclusive look at some of the shooting along with cast interviews should be enough to satisfy Twilight fans’ appetites for now…
So, is Kristen Stewart as Bella hotter now that she’s a vampire than when she was a sweet, innocent girl?
Release date: November 16
Recommended if you like: Twilight, enough said.
