We Are Young – fun. featuring Janelle Monae
Released last September, fun.’s first single from their upcoming second album Some Nights can credit its climb to the top of the digital songs chart to two things: Glee’s cover of the song in its “Hold On To Sixteen” episode and its recent inclusion in a Super Bowl ad. The Glee cover made #1 on the iTunes chart last December, giving the band some exposure, while the Chevy Sonic’s Super Bowl commercial pushed the original version to the top of the charts.
Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) – Kelly Clarkson
“Stronger” is Clarkson’s second single from the same titled album, released on radio last month. An upbeat pop rock song, the song was inspired by the famous Nietzsche quote, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger” and is veritably about empowerment, specifically for getting back up after a failed relationship got you down.
I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston
The late music icon’s death brought her timeless classics back to the mainstream, and for the first time, Houston makes the digital song charts with of course the all-time best-selling single by a female artist, “I Will Always Love You” from her first movie The Bodyguard.
Set Fire To The Rain – Adele
Adele is on top of the music industry right now fresh off her dominating Grammy Awards night. “Set Fire To The Rain” is a power ballad from her chart-reigning album 21 but it’s her live rendition during her show at the Royal Albert Hall that’s gotten the most airplay.
Give Me All Your Luvin’ – Madonna Featuring Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.
Straight from the Super Bowl halftime performance, Madonna’s newest single from her upcoming album MDNA features powerful female artists Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. This dance pop song was previously leaked by a man from Spain who has since been arrested, but it didn’t stop the single from being the new dance theme in town.
Rack City – Tyga
Tyga’s biggest hit to date, “Rack City” has only been gaining prominence in the US since December. There’s already an official remix underway titled “Lob City” (as tribute to the LA Clippers) featuring Young Jeezy, T.I., Meek Mill, Wale and Fabolous.
